Tricks ’n’ Treats for the Dinner Table

Would you care for an horror d’oeuvre? How about some mashed boo-tatoes?

With the aromas of baking pumpkins, cranberries, chestnuts, apples and spices filling the air, this is the perfect season for getting creative with the foods you serve. As you put together a crowd-pleasing menu for a fall dinner party, we suggest you also mix in some Halloween-themed fun. Along with a hearty soup or succulent roast, how about serving:

  • Pickled Brains: In a clear jar, display pickled vegetables in a solution of vinegar and food coloring.
  • Worms in Dirt: Top a dish of black beans with thinly sliced hot dogs.
  • Bat Wings: Marinate chicken wings in a little soy sauce and black paste food coloring. Get the “batty” recipe here!
  • Pumpkin Cake: Place a bundt cake upside-down on a platter, frost the flat surface, top with a second bundt cake, then frost the outside.
  • Poison Potions: Serve drinks in Erlenmeyer flasks.

Leave a comment and let us know what you’re creating in the kitchen this fall!
